cyclingDear All

THINKING OF CYCLING AROUND OUR COUNTRY LANES WHILST ON HOLIDAY IN THE AREA…..?

Cycling  Puerto Pollensa to Alcudia via the beautiful Bay of Pollensa Road

Today we are talking cycling along the lanes and country roads surrounding Pollensa and Puerto Pollensa for all of you who may be staying with us and are avid “hobby” cyclists.  We are blessed with some delightful countryside where our roads and country lanes cris- cross between each.

As a rule country lanes  in this area are generally tarmac and well sign posted and to guide you along your way many lanes have large cycling maps dotted here and there for assistance of locations and whereabouts.

Here are some suggestion box routes for you:-

POLLENSA TO PUERTO POLLENSDA – TWO ROUTES ALONG THE MAIN ROAD OR VIA COUNTRY LANES FONT XICA ZONE:

We have a cycle way that leads from Pollensa down to Puerto Pollensa, although this is located adjacent to the main road, you can also get from Pollensa to Puerto Pollensa via the  “pretty countryside route”, just past the Cala St. Vincent turnoff continue a little further and take the first turn off on your right.  There is a construction company at this turn off.  If you follow the lanes in this area, they end up connecting at the bottom of the main road and you only have a short distance to cycle into Puerto Pollensa.  This area is known as Font Xica and it is a nice area with abundance of countryside views and nice villas along the way.

ALCUDIA THE OLD ROAD FROM POLLENSA:

At the Cockerel roundabout, take the first exit on the right this is the “old road” to Alcudia and takes you along the road which finally ends up at a Garden Centre Bisanyes and the main roundabout to Alcudia and port Alcudia if you wish to then cycle along the main roads to get to these resorts.  Along this road there are some lanes you can veer off along the way which can take you down to the Bay and Sea, or into the countryside nearby the Golf Club Pollensa.

ALCUDIA VIA PUERTO POLLENSA AND THE BAY ROAD:

Starting off in Puerto Pollensa, get onto the first line road and continue along this road which takes you around the Bay of Pollensa up to the Old Town of Alcudia, there are cycle lanes on this road and although main road, it has the beautiful bay adjacent to the road and the views across the bay are stunning – a delightful ride.

THREE COUNTRY LANE ROUTES DOWN TO PUERTO POLLENSA VIA CONNECTING LANES:-

From the Cockerel roundabout, take the third exit and continue up to the next roundabout Galeries Vicencs.  Just before the roundabout take the turn off on left named Cami LLenaire, this road finally ends up at Llenaire Beach.

When you reach a small cross road, if you turn right this takes you to Aumadrava Zone and if you follow these country lanes, you end up down at the Bay of Pollensa – facing the sea,  go left  you can cycle to Puerto Pollensa, go Right takes you to Alcudia old town round the Bay.

If you turn left at the cross road, this takes you to the Font Xica zone as mentioned above and finally takes you down to Puerto Pollensa.

CALA ST. VINCENT

Take the turn off the main road to Cala St. Vincent on the road Pollensa to Puerto Pollensa.  Simply cycle along this road, it leads you directly to the delightful little resort of Cala St. Vincent with its super three cove beaches and turquoise watersdont forget to have your swimmers in tow on this route” for a quick dip into the awaiting crystal blue waters of Cala St. Vincent.

Most lanes are pretty and have nice countryside views also are interconnected by cris crossing many of the lane,  finally end up to your destination as many country lanes in the area link up with each other at some place or another.

Although cycling along country roads and lanes whether in your own country or here in Mallorca as beautiful and tranquil as they may be,  always be aware for any unforseen and perhaps some unpredicable animals or faster drivers, take caution when cycling – a few tips:-

  • Keep eye out for any “potholes” that may be on roads
  • Any animals you meet, if you have a water bottle spray this comes in handy, to move animals away,  if its a sheep infront of you,  a suggestion box from our clients shouting the word “Baaaaaaaaaaa” works wonders!!!!! or so they say?????
  • Ensure to take enough water and food with you if your planning a longer ride, (tell someone your going for a cycle ride) and where,  if known, at the time of your journey.

This time of year is ideal weather for cycling, and we hope you enjoy some “free spirit” cycling  along our lovely country lanes and roads during your stay in the area.
